Our story

Built on love. Focused on seniors.

We are not a general charity. We exist so older adults in Atlanta never have to face loneliness alone.

Inspired by a grandmother who never stopped caring

Shinning Cedars Charities began with a simple observation: in a city as vibrant as Atlanta, too many older adults still eat dinner alone, miss conversations, and lose touch with community.

Founder and Executive Director Rosa Magaly Solis grew up watching her grandmother extend kindness to anyone who needed it — a model of quiet, consistent care. That legacy shaped a decision to serve seniors, not because their needs are invisible, but because loneliness is.

We chose companionship over charity-as-transaction. Food matters. Shelter matters. But human connection is what makes life feel worth living.

Today we are a registered 501(c)(3) organization with an urgent mission: ensure no senior in our community has to age without someone showing up for them.

Why seniors

Children matter. So do the elderly we too often forget.

Isolation is epidemic

Many seniors live alone, cannot drive, and lack regular visitors. Loneliness affects physical and mental health.

Connection is the cure

Volunteers who visit regularly provide something food alone cannot — the feeling that someone chose to show up.

Atlanta needs this

Our community is growing and aging. Buckhead and metro Atlanta need local organizations focused on senior dignity.

Looking ahead

From pilot program to lasting institution

Our long-term vision includes expanded senior support services and community transportation.

The transportation vision

When funded, Shinning Cedars will invest in community transportation so isolated seniors can attend medical appointments, senior center activities, faith gatherings, and social events. Mobility is connection — and connection is our mission.

Grant language example: “A community transport program will provide rides for isolated seniors across Greater Atlanta.”

A growing Atlanta nonprofit inspired by a grandmother's legacy of caring.
